It's a shame that the service at Guanabana doesn't try at all, when the food tries so hard. Drinks should arrive before starters, not after main courses, warm, and only after repeated pestering (we weren't the only ones in the room having that problem either). There seems to be no coherence between staff members as they buzz around the dining room swapping covers and leaving diners craning necks in all directions to attract their attention.
As I said, the food tries but doesn't always hit the mark either. The portions are very generous, but the calamari rings were so thinly cut that I got a mouthful of hot crispy batter more than anything else. Curry goat (actually mutton) made up for it by being cooked to a perfect level of tenderness that just fell off the bone- a good thing too as my bowlful was half skeleton.
All in all, I would be tempted to go back again for the food and because it's so close to my house and relatively good value for money. But stimulating company is a must, and next time I'm taking advantage of the BYO policy and bringing a hipflask. I'll need it to deal with the service.
