Housed in a little mews running off Brompton Road, Giovanni has upped its game following a recent refurb – the newfound classiness reflected in the hordes of well-heeled locals who now flock here. Muted grey-green walls and concertina doors (a bonus in warm weather) have replaced the lairy yellow tones that went before, with dapper staff and oodles of white linen completing the handsome transformation. The kitchen deals in easy-to-please Italian sunshine food, with a healthy hit of seafood running through its dishes: think crab and avocado salad, creamy lobster spaghetti or grilled tuna steak with rocket alongside beef carpaccio and veal milanese. Desserts stick to classics such as pannacotta and gelato, while wines play it similarly patriotic. The website claims you might be lucky enough to spot a Hollywood A-lister among the tables – needless to say we didn't during our last visit.
