The award winning Gilroy’s restaurant situated in the main building offers a contemporary yet fulfilling menu. The main focus of Alex Wood – Head Chef is to use the freshest and most seasonal produce and using them to deliver great food. We use local meat and game from the neighbouring estates and fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs grown in our gardens and the surrounding countryside. The decor within the restaurant offers oak panelling, elegant furnishings and artwork provided from a local artist Sandra Parker who is famous for her love of sheep and the Teesdale countryside.
The name Gilroy’s comes from the famous artist John Gilroy who is famed for his work for Guinness and the marketing of this world famous product. Around the hotel you will find his influence with framed work depicting the early advertising he produced and also our dickens themed mural which adorns the walls in our other eatery The Dickens Bar and Bistro. He painted this in 1946 to clear a debt he owed to the owner and it still stands proud as a talking point for all of our visitors to view.
