Since 2009, Galu in Banstead has invited diners to enjoy the inviting ambiance of a custom-crafted open flame charcoal grill, situated at the focal point of their open-view kitchen.
The restaurant’s interior design features natural stone walls sourced from Cyprus and snakeskin furniture imported from Italy, contributing to a comforting Mediterranean atmosphere for guests, just a stone’s throw away from The Nork. Guests can sit at the bar in Galu if not planning on a sit down meal, and enjoy the extensive wine list and good beer selection.
For something to nibble on, you can order a Cyprian or Italian platter to enjoy while you work your way through the creative cocktail menu. The menu kicks off with a trio of dips, Cypriot meatballs and filo pastry parcels in a tomato and basil coulis, before the Med-inspired main menu - dishes include hot tiger prawns pan fried with garlic, seared wood pigeon in red wine jus, spaghetti with king crab, and kleftiko, a dish of slow braised lamb shoulder with aromatic herbs. A mixed fish platter of seabass, swordfish, salmon and tiger prawns is perfect for those who prefer a dish from the sea, along with the mussels steamed in white wine, garlic and cream. A selection of Greek baklava is available for dessert, along with a petit chocolat pot paired with amaretti biscuits, and strawberry and passion fruit vacherin.
Galu also has a terrace which overlooks The Nork - an intimate terrace which serves both the a la carte menu for al fresco dining, and the bar menu. Tuesday is half price steak night, offering customers the chance to try out Galu’s sirloin, ribeye, fillet or tomahawk steak with a selection of sides, sauces and potatoes.
