Fenix offers a tantalizing journey through Greco-Mediterranean cuisine, blending tradition with innovation in a fire-kissed dining experience. Located in the Manchester Goods Yard, the team behind Tattu have brought us Fenix - a bastion of modern Mykonos culture in the heart of the city. Drawing inspiration from the legendary phoenix, symbolizing resilience and triumph, Fenix injects new vitality into Manchester's culinary landscape with its distinctive concept. The restaurant's ethos revolves around exploration, immersive dining, and a fusion of ancient and contemporary Hellenic influences.
The interior design mirrors the concept with a dark and atmospheric ambience featuring a striking burning cauldron, charred rockfaces, and a suspended barley ceiling. Terrazzo stone flooring, bespoke furniture, palm wood accents, and ceramic tables pay homage to the iconic Mykonian aesthetic. The space is thoughtfully divided, with the first floor exuding warm, natural tones reminiscent of a Greek seaside retreat, while the bar and restaurant capture the vibrant essence of Mykonos nightlife.
Under the culinary direction of executive head chef Ippokratis Anagnostelis and head chef Zisis Giannouras, renowned for their expertise in Athenian and Mykonian fine dining, the kitchen presents an innovative offering that harmonizes contemporary techniques with timeless flavours.
The Fenix menu encourages sharing, featuring Greek staples like lamb short rib moussaka and smoked taramasalata. But it’s also a menu of discovery, with creations like an Athenian sea bass tartare with Ossetra caviar served with tartare and citrus dressing, and a ‘broken down tart’ with slow-cooked lamb shank and parsnip cream. As for desserts, you can expect traditional Tsoureki with lemon cream and red fruits, or soupa carida, a coconut soup with lemon croutons and green apple sorbet. The cocktail list is equally stimulating, inspired by myths like the Charybdis and the four elements. It’s a dining experience that transcends boundaries, inviting guests to savour the rich tapestry of Greco-Mediterranean tradition.
