The farm girl of the title is owner Rose Mann, whose rural Aussie childhood is a natural fit for modern ideas about healthy eating. Tucked away at the smart end of Portobello Road, this cute little café draws health-conscious locals and tourists familiar with fruit bowls, granola and acai bowls. The food that comes out of the tiny open kitchen is impressive – think generous portions of steak and chips, crab cakes and lentil and fennel salad. Also check out the trendy coconut 'bacon' (tamari, maple syrup and coconut flakes) slipped into gluten-free (and vegan) BLTs. Drinks include cold-brew coffee, green tea, hot chocolate and high-powered smoothies. A frieze of mythical farm creatures dominates the tiled room, while huge windows overlook a sheltered outdoor courtyard.
