Tucked away down a little alleyway near Liverpool Street, Enoteca Super Tuscan is the kind of wine bar/restaurant you’d love to have on your doorstep. The cosy galley-style interior is thronged with City workers tucking into sharing plates and nibbles: fried whitebait, bruschetta with porcini, a cold salad of char-grilled aubergines and courgettes with olive oil and garlic or a deliciously rustic bowl of penne with guanciale (pig’s cheek) and pecorino. The all-Italian wine list is a real treat, too: you’ll find good, honest quaffers, such as a fresh, zingy Vernaccia di San Gimignano from Bonacci or a blend of Sangiovese and Nero d’Avola from Angelo alongside big-hitting Super Tuscans including Antinori’s sublime Tignanello. Punters who pop in from 5.30-7pm on weeknights get complimentary ‘aperitivo’ snacks too.
