En Root at The Ritzy is an Indian-inspired vegan street food restaurant offering affordable and nourishing food designed to energise, uplift and satisfy. Founded by local boys Nish and Harsh Modasia back in 2016, En Root began as a humble deli in Dulwich before evolving into a food truck business where the brothers created their popular Raja Bonnet sauce. Since then, the brand has gone from strength to strength opening multiple brick-and-mortar sites across London to share their passion for plant-based food.
Situated within the iconic Brixton Ritzy Picturehouse cinema, this lively spot is the perfect stop off before or after a film - although you certainly don't need to watch a move to eat here. On the menu, you'll find familiar starters like poppadums and samosas as well as more unusual dishes like pani puri, mini baskets filled with beetroot, onion, chickpeas and pomegranate and Indian tacos with fillings like jerk plantain mushroom mix, pickled cabbage, salsa and raita.
For the main event, go large with a pakora burger, desi pizza or sharing platter for two which includes a selection of items including golden rice, coconut curry, daily dhal, saag aloo, jerk plantain, mushroom mix, samosa, curried chickpeas, rainbow salad, pickled cabbage, avocado, mango chutney and a paratha for mopping up all that lovely sauce. Or, keep it light with a shiva wrap or Rani health bowl accompanied by cassava chips. A visit to any En Root establishment warrants a tasting of the ever popular Raja Bonnet sauce, so make sure to order a side serving and see what all the fuss is about.
Drinks are kept healthy and non-alcoholic with the likes of coconut water or a mango lassi with cardamom, a great accompaniment to your authentic Gujarati meal. If you'd prefer something harder, head to the bar just adjacent to En Root within the Ritzy building.
