Franklin & Baines is an up-market steak restaurant in Clapham with a European, grand bistro vibe. It's located just minutes away from Clapham High Street, making it an easy spot to meet friends, have a date or make the most of the restaurant's private dining room. The concept hinges very much on steak, and more specifically dry aged, grass fed British beef.
Expect a mix of starters and sides, as well as creative cocktails to pair alongside. Jumping straight in with the menu, start with a mix of smaller plates, which can be easily shared with the table. There's crispy duck egg, served with sautéed kale and a potato cake, alongside cured beetroot and dill salmon with pickled cucumber and horseradish cream, as well as courgette tempura with herb mayonnaise for dunking. Now, while we imagine you'll want to get your teeth into a steak, there are a selection of alternative main dishes to enjoy as well.
Pescatarians will love the pan fried hake with chorizo, Jersey Royals and romesco sauce, or the king prawns in Persillade butter with watercress. While the broccoli steak is a tasty-sounding vegetarian option, served with quinoa salad, tomato salsa and toasted almonds. Or, if perhaps, you're just in the mood for something lighter, there's an all-out chicken caesar salad or a steak sandwich with chips. The main event, though, is of course the grill. Here, you'll find a selection of tomahawk, flat iron, sirloin, rump, hanger and T-bone, all served alongside beef dripping chips.
If you're still hungry, extras look like truffled mac and cheese, creamed spinach, broccoli and almonds or a green salad. As for drinks, there's some delicious cocktails on the menu, such as the Franklin's Rose with gin, rose liqueur, grapefruit and lemon, or the Peanut Chocolate with peanut bourbon, Cocchi and chocolate. You'll also find a selection of sparkling, white, red and rose wines, with bottles from across Europe.
