From head chef Guirong Wei, Dream Xi’an takes diners on a journey through the Silk Road. Wei is the co-owner of this immersive restaurant, but leads the kitchen with skills he has learnt throughout his illustrious career. Dream Xi’an opened its doors to the public back in March 2019, and has continued to delight customers with dishes that are based on traditions from Chang’an, which is known in the present day as Xi’an. This city is part of the Great Tang Dynasty, and has an incredibly rich history. Given the foundations and inspiration for Dream Xi’an, it’s no surprise that a meal here isn’t just about eating, but instead focuses on heightening all of the senses, with the opportunity to explore Chang’an’s antiquity.
You’ll be able to visit Dream Xi’an between 11am and 9.30pm every day of the week, other than on Sundays, when it closes an hour earlier. The dishes are exceptional, and begin with cold starters of sliced chicken in a sesame sauce with bamboo shoots, and bean curd skin with sesame oil, chilli and vinegar. Of course, there are hot starters to choose from, including the BBQ sauce pork ribs, fried chicken and mushroom pot-sticker dumplings, and the salt and pepper squid. If you like dim sum, you must order the steamed pork bao with preserved vegetables and spring onions, and for street food, try the liangpi noodles, steamed beef and onion dumplings, and wontons in a chicken broth.
Noodles are a thing of speciality at Dream Xi’an, and include the handmade noodles in the chef's special chilli sauce, along with hand pulled noodles with pork in a sweet and spicy soup. For something simple, yet delicious, try the noodles with tomato and egg in soup.
