Doner Summer is an incredibly popular vegan junk food option, with multiple sites across the UK. Its Manchester branch doesn’t require booking, since it’s tucked away inside YES, a cool venue in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. YES is open everyday from 12pm until late, meaning you’re free from then on to go and get your Doner Summer fix. Since its first pop-up in York, Doner Summer has become a staple on vegan foodie bucket lists, and we can see why.
Its Manchester menu is succinct, but there’s enough on there to satisfy even the most adamant veganism sceptics. The menu is divided up into two sections: kebabs, and fried chick’n.
If you opt for the iconic Doner Summer kebab, you’ll first choose between the Khobez wrap, garlic and coriander flatbread, or you can decide to swap your bread out for skin-on fries if that’s more your thing. After that, you’ll have to make the most difficult choice: what filling will you have? There are a few options to choose from, which all look equally delicious. The Bad Girl Kebab, for example, is filled with doner, garlic chilli chick’n, pickled pink cabbage, lettuce, peppers, cucumber, tomato, garlic chilli hot sauce and scotch bonnet hot sauce, pink aioli, and pickles (yes, it can be a little messy to eat…). If you want a little something on the side, you’ve got the choice of seasoned skin-on fries, or garlic fries with pink aioli – simple but effective.
When it comes to the fried chick’n, you first choose your coating: classic or spicy. Then, your flavour, which will be picked from the likes of buffalo hot, Kansas BBQ, Korean BBQ, salt and pepper.
Basically, there are a lot of choices to be made, and the variety of great options makes this is a difficult feat. But don’t panic, dining at Donner Summer is a fun, delicious, and colourful affair.
