Delicious Pho in Spitalfields is the first UK-based restaurant from the Vietnamese chef Chau Tran, who has made her name from her 12 restaurants in Canada. Occupying the former Byron site, Delicious Pho serves up pho, Vietnamese street food, bubble tea, and dessert.
The restaurant itself is designed to look modern and clean, featuring white tile walls, white tile flooring, white stools, a white countertop... in fact, not counting the kitchen, one of the only bursts of colour in the place comes from the giant yellow 'TEA'licious' sign on the wall. Natural light floods through the giant, street-facing windows, where diners can sit on stools at a bar table and people-watch. The restaurant seats 104 people, so there's plenty of space. You can plan your visit around sitting inside or taking your meal to go.
The star of the menu, as you've probably guessed, is the pho. With over ten variations of the dish on the menu, each featuring fresh ingredients from Spitalfields Market and centered around a 12 hour broth, there is no shortage of options to pick from. You can choose what add-ons you want in your build-your-own bowl out of options like sliced steak, brisket, tiger prawns, or veggies and tofu, or you can let the experts decide and pick out one of their specialty bowls, with options like the Pho Seafood with light chicken broth, squid, prawns, fish cakes, and fish balls. If you're not in a soup mood, there is also a selection of curry, fried rice, stir fry, dried pho, and vermicelli bowls - as well as a variety of starters and sharing plates.
Diners looking for a sweet drink to balance out their savory bowl of pho can find many options on the menu, as half of it is dedicated to bubble tea, smoothies, and a Vietnamese dessert drink selections. Check out the instagrammable Rubies & Jellies dessert drink, with fresh red rubies, grass jellies, pandan jelly, and coconut milk.
