Jam-packed midweek, it’s safe to assume the crowds are not at this wee Brixton duplex for the decor – a drab makeover of what was previously the Hive cocktail lounge. As at Craft Beer Co’s
(better-looking) Hatton Garden and Islington venues, it’s all about the ale – a mightily impressive range collated in binders brimming with brewing’s best. Staff are keen to advise: St. Bernardus
Abt 12 from Flanders promises hoppy goodness at £6.50 for one-third of a litre, while relative newcomer Viven Imperial IPA (complex, full-bodied, creamy and high on hops and citrus fruit) is not
the sort of sup you’ll find in brewery-tied houses hereabouts. As well as a sensational selection of Scandinavian, American and Brit brews on tap, there are quality spirits too – notably bourbons
and gins. To eat, half a pork pie (£4.50) will satisfy all but Goliath.
