SquareMeal Review of Clytha Arms

A proper roadside pub with more than a sideline in gutsy cooking, The Clytha Arms has expansive grassy grounds dotted with mature trees and a homely interior decked out in rustic style (think hunting prints, exposed beams, worn floorboards and mismatched furniture). Besides the traditional, fire-warmed bar, there’s also a country-style restaurant dealing in eclectic dishes with largely local ingredients – think grilled oysters with Caerphilly cheese and laverbread; pork and wild-garlic faggots with mash; wild boar and duck cassoulet; daily fish specials and more besides. There’s a great tapas selection too, with options ranging from potato and chorizo omelette to smoked duck, orange and onion salad. The pub is also renowned for its real ales, getting through hundreds of guest brews each year. Pleasing strolls – including the lovely Usk Valley walk – can be had nearby.
