Appropriately located behind Waterloo station, this darkly lit, wood panelled, post-work cocktail club aims to recreate the era when rail travel was still a glamorous proposition. Back in the day,
that meant the art-deco Golden Arrow, a gilded Pullman service that once glided elegantly twixt London and Paris. The old loco is long gone, but you can now experience something similar as
train-journey visuals whizz past the Carriage’s ‘windows’ while you sip cocktails, wine and premium draughts from the comfort of green-leather booth seating. Vodka ideas abound – from Collins and
mojitos to Waterloo brew (a rum, guava and Chambord mule). Otherwise, test the keen bartenders’ mastery of more period-correct calls by going off-menu for white lady, gimlet or sidecar. Note that a
cover charge applies from midnight on Saturdays, when the Soul Train DJ party doesn’t hit the buffers until 4.30am.
