Adding life & excitement to a section of the grand, but still soulless, redevelopment along the river from Wandsworth Bridge, this rather hip café & cookery school is the brainchild of the cake-boy himself, Eric Lanlard. Turn right at the door for a seductive boudoir of a tearoom; on the left is the school, all gleaming clean & white, which doubles up as a café outside of teaching hours. There’s plenty of diet-breaking temptation to be found here, from perfect mini-macaroons to full-blown chocolate slices, via croissants & other Viennoiserie at breakfast, & posh sandwiches & salads at lunch. Tea & coffee are both properly made, but a glass of Champagne or two in the afternoon seems to slip down a treat with a cake.
