Pitched midway between Clerkenwell and Finsbury, Café Tiffin looks quite modest from the outside with its plain glass and wooden frontage – but there’s plenty going on in the kitchen of this cosy and unassuming neighbourhood Indian. All the usual curry-house favourites are here – from samosas and tandoori lamb chops to sag gosht and Bombay aloo – but it’s worth checking out the chef’s recommendations including monkfish tikka, ‘village-style’ aubergines or a quirky take on chicken tikka masala with a creamy sauce involving peanut butter. Omelettes and chips are provided for any curry-phobes who stray into the place. To drink, soothing lassi is a handy alternative to lager or wine.
