“An Exmouth Market classic”, Café Kick is a world away from all those sports bar clichés – think lads in designer knock-offs drinking lager and watching footie. Although it’s the spiritual home of ‘babyfoot’ in London and shows live football, the vintage Formica tables, zinc bar, bright orange chairs and ceilings covered in World Cup flags suggest something cool and continental. Cocktails come in cheap during happy hour (4-7pm), when the beer of the day (perhaps Brahma or Mahou 5) is £2 a bottle. Food is global, but with Mediterranean overtones: specials of chickpea tagine with couscous or lamb and broad bean stew with rice supplement a café menu covering everything from lunchtime sandwiches and salads to sharing patters and tapas in the evening (pan con tomate, chorizo in red wine etc). A Shoreditch sibling, Bar Kick, has more tables and other added features.
