Housed in the Ikon Gallery – Birmingham’s contemporary art space in the beautifully converted Oozells Street School – Yorks is part of a mini-chain of cafes, which impresses with its own-roasted coffee and all-day brunch menu.
The relaxed, shabby-chic space features exposed brick walls and concrete floors, while the doors open out to fair-weather tables overlooking Oozells Square. On the menu, you can pick from brunch staples such as eggs Benedict on sourdough, and a brioche bacon roll, while those looking for something a little different can opt for the likes of a Persian-spiced burger, or flatbread topped with falafel.
If you’re after a more substantial meal, you can join the party from midday, where the likes of health-conscious rice bowls topped with jerk chicken or black beans join the menu, alongside gut-busting burgers and fries loaded with a signature ‘gunpowder’ spice mix.
