Occupying what was a Chinese takeaway on a downbeat stretch of Mare Street, this cute little Caribbean eatery is an honest venue with few airs and graces but a solid reputation for good native food. The minimalist interior is something of a hangover from those chicken chow mein days, but the kitchen delivers the goods when it comes to no-nonsense West Indian grub. Come here for punchy soups, rich stews, pickled fish, curried goat, oxtail with butterbeans, stewed chicken and other staples, followed by generous slabs of homemade carrot cake. To drink, order homemade pineapple or Guinness punch.
