This friendly little café offers everything you need from a neighbourhood hangout: proper coffee from roasters Caravan, all-day brunch, punchy cocktails and a warm welcome from staff who seem genuinely pleased to see you. It's run by three school friends who kitted out the site themselves, painting the walls and building the seating for the walled back yard. They've also devised an on-trend menu that showcases well-sourced ingredients. We sampled The Step Sister, a delicious stack of courgette, beetroot and feta fritters layered with smashed avocado and spinach, then topped with a poached egg: veggie goodness balanced with a nice kick of chilli spice. Other options include The Brother Special (smoked salmon, asparagus and scrambled eggs on toast), seasonal salads packed with healthy ingredients and ‘big-boy’ sandwiches such as Bob's your Uncle (bavette steak, caramelised onions and Cheddar) and The Salty Wench (braised salt beef, two fried eggs, shredded potato crisps and gherkins). Our top tip? Save room for a toasted slice of banana bread too.
