Blue Fig is an atmospheric Mediterranean restaurant in the heart of Balham, one of South London's buzziest food scenes, surrounded by an eclectic mix of bars and pubs. The restaurant is owned by Head Chef Samer, who draws inspiration for the restaurant and menu from his childhood in Jerusalem, and memories of baking fresh pastries filled with goat cheese, thyme, spinach and feta, with his mother.
When Samer moved to London 25 years ago, he dreamed of starting his own restaurant, and now that he has he brings together a mix of his favourite cuisines, including Palestinian food and British classics. On the menu, you'll find breakfast dishes like Eggs Florentine, Eggs Royale and Eggs Benedict, next to Shakshuka and a traditional English Breakfast. The Bacon Pancakes sound great, served with maple syrup, as does the Porridge with bananas and your choice of milk.
As for main dishes, fill your boots with pan-fried salmon and bok choy with pomegranate syrup, alongside fresh-sounding salads such as classic ceaser and avocado, bacon and spinach. If burgers are your thing, try the succulent chicken burger, or the halloumi filling works perfectly as a vegetarian option. As for dessert, we like the sound of the Passion Fruit Eton Mess with whipped cream, as well as the Hazelnut Crumble with pear and apple, served with vanilla ice cream. And, an after dinner coffee or hot chocolate, with truffle cake with red wine figs, is an absolute must.
In terms of the decor and atmosphere, you'll love the pink cherry blossom style floral installation hanging overhead, ideal for taking an Instagram snap. Plus, the low hanging industrial pendant lighting gives the space a warm ambience and stylish feel. Both couples, friends and large parties are welcome, just give the team a call to book a big table.
