The quaint Britannia Inn in the Gower is a gorgeous country bar and kitchen. The popular restaurant offers a daily specials board, a la carte menu, and traditional Sunday roast. The restaurant fills up pretty quickly, and the team recommends that guests book at least three days in advance. The 17th century bar is complete with a cosy wood burner, and here, they serve three real ales, including the locally sourced Gower Gold and two guest ales. Premium lager is also served, including Bierre Morretti and the classics. For those not drinking alcohol, they may enjoy the freshly brewed coffee with homemade biscuits, scones and Welsh cakes.
The menu begins with starters of a warm goats cheese tart with roasted thyme and garlic vegetables, beetroot puree, red pepper coulis and pesto, along with Brit smoked duck pot with homemade fig and date chutney and toasted croutes. Main dishes include a sous-vide Salt Marsh lamb shoulder with mash potato, butternut puree, seasonal vegetables and lamb gravy, and an authentic North Indian inspired vegetable curry with fragrant pilau rice and naan bread. If you like to try something different on each visit, look to the specials board and expect to find dishes of perfectly tender octopus with charred baby gem lettuce, sofrito, romesco sauce and basil oil, along with Welsh pigeon and rocket leaf salad, dressed with the in house katsu dressing, roast butternut and beetroot, black pudding, a katsu crumb and quail egg.
Finish off with a delightful pudding, whether choosing the classic bread and butter option with mixed berries and creme anglaise, or the iced Penderyn whiskey parfait with a rich vanilla, tea and prune syrup.
