Tamsin Ramasut, daughter of the Ramasut family, founded Bangkok Cafe in Cardiff 10 years ago. Growing up in Cardiff, attending Glantaf, a Welsh speaking school, she travelled between Thailand and Cardiff to connect with her heritage. With a passion for Thai cuisine cultivated at her father's restaurant, The Thai House, Tamsin, who was successful in Urban Regeneration in London, returned to Cardiff. Missing delicious and authentic Thai food in the city, she aimed to bring the excellence of The Thai House to a younger, more relaxed setting. So, Bangkok Cafe emerged on Cowbridge Road in Canton, redefining Thai food in Wales and adding vibrancy to Cardiff's dining scene. Now an established neighbourhood restaurant, the team have contributed to making Cowbridge Road a diverse eating destination.
Expect to find dishes of deep fried dumplings with an assortment of vegetables, and spicy and sticky pork ribs. Stir fries include the bed grapow, and is made with slices of roast duck stir fried with basil and chilli, served with yellow rice and steamed green vegetables with a coconut dressing. When it comes to curries, there is of course a traditional hot green chicken curry served with vegetable tempura. There's also a pretty hefty vegan menu, which is great for those searching for plant based food in the city.
