SquareMeal Review of Auberge Sandell Street
About as close as one gets to eating at Waterloo Station without actually settling for a baguette on the concourse, this usefully located French bar and bistro is just the ticket. Its traditionally minded menu doesn’t exactly challenge the taste buds, but there’s a time and a place for good old fashioned steak-frites, salade niçoise or a bowl of moules marinière. An ‘express menu’ featuring burgers, omelettes and various ‘croques’ suits time-pressed travellers, while for a more leisurely occasion, the likes of calf’s liver with savoy cabbage and Parmentier potatoes, crab and avocado salad or porc à la normande can be found on the carte. Get into the bistro spirit with a Belgian beer (perhaps draught Leffe or a bottle of cherry beer); otherwise sip a glass of Viognier from the short international wine list.
