Atelier is a creative drinks studio and cocktail bar from award-winning drinks creator Robert Wood, located in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Housed in a restored factory in Newhall Square, Atelier doubles as a bar, workshop and studio with a focus on encouraging pure creative freedom, allowing Robert to express his ever-changing interests and ideas through drinks. Open for just a few nights a week for a handful of guests each evening, and with each menu available for a limited time only, guests can expect a constantly evolving experience.
Robert has spent 20 years in the drinks industry, where he’s accrued accolades from the likes of CLASS, Imbibe and Top 50 Cocktail Bars and is also the mind behind two more of Birmingham's cocktail bars: 18/81 and Smultronstalle.
Atelier follows in the footsteps of his former boundary-pushing bars, sharing their spirit of restless curiosity and experimentation. Its menus are ever-evolving and each menu is only available for 8 to 12 weeks, offering a laser-focused insight into Robert’s current creative obsessions.
One particular menu named ‘Terroir’, for example, is a seven-course cocktail experience that takes guests on a journey of the UK by celebrating the flavours and ingredients from its many landscapes. Alternatively, guests are invited to settle in to Atelier’s beautiful lounge and enjoy house cocktails from an a la carte menu.
The bar is housed inside a Grade II listed building that dates back to 1838. Its interiors take inspiration from a variety of styles and influences in order to create a relaxed, everyday luxury, boasting a blend of 60s Scandinavian design and Japanese minimalism. Atelier is an intimate venture seating just 26 guests at a time and is open Thursday to Saturday.
