The Truro outpost of ever-reliable chain restaurant Ask Italian is found in the rather plum location of Lemon Street, just a hop skip and jump away from Lemon Quay and also in close proximity to the Lemon Street Gallery and Plaza Cinema.
It is a deceptively large open-plan space, kitted out with a calming, coastal feel thanks to light wooden flooring, white chairs and columns. There are also a few knick knacks dotted around the space to give it a homely Italian feel, including potted plants and faux vegetables hanging from the walls, while a partially open kitchen towards the back of the dining room means you can watch the chefs at work.
Ask Italian is open for dinner only during the week, while you can head here for lunch on weekends. The menu is an all-encompassing offering of homespun Italian favourites, featuring the expected selections of pizza, pasta, sides and puddings. Kick start your meal with the snacky likes of garlic bread or calamari, before moving on to your choice of pizza or pasta - a slice of Pollo Piccante Con Pancetta (chicken breast with pancetta and roasted veg) perhaps? Or maybe a comforting bowl of carbonara?
To pad out your meal, you can choose from side dishes such as garlic and cheese chips served with a garlic mayonnaise or a vibrant mixed salad, while Ask Italian’s tempting pudding selection blends the traditional with the contemporary - think a classic tiramisu alongside the likes of a blood orange and chocolate tart.
To help wash it all down, you can peruse Ask Italian’s selection of wines and beers, while if you have got the family in tow, you can take comfort in the fact that Ask Italian offers a dedicated kids menu. Fairly priced and with friendly staff, it’s a reliable option for a family meal.
