Popular with Canonbury and Newington Green locals, Ash's Tandoori is a neighbourhood Indian restaurant and takeaway, with a menu that includes a typical mixture of curries, tandoori dishes and sundries.
Table lamps cast a moody glow across the dining room, whilst wood floors, wood-panelled walls and wall paintings give the restaurant a homely feel. Head through the restaurant and a set of sliding patio doors at the back, and you'll find yourself in Ash's expansive al fresco terrace, where you can sit for a drink or have a bite to eat on North London's balmier evenings.
The menu kicks off with starters like onion bhajis, meat and vegetable samosas, crispy chicken pakoras, and tandoori specials like marinated chicken and lamb tikka, malai tandoori lamb chops and a whole tandoori chicken, all cooked in the fiery heat of the clay oven.
On the curry front, Ash's Tandoori delivers classic, popular curries like korma, passanda, bhuna, jalfrezi and butter chicken, as well as lots of house specialities. There's the popular chingri bahar, for example - prawns cooked with cauliflower and broccoli in a spicy sauce - or the nawabi bara chingri, where chunky king prawns are fried in butter, then cooked in a fiery chilli sauce with potato and tomato. Ash's also specialises in balti dishes, offering a wide range of meat, vegetable and seafood baltis.
Vegetarians are well looked after with a huge array of vegetable curries as well as vegetarian sides like saag aloo, aloo gobi and bhindi bhaji, and on top of all that, all your favourite naans are accounted for too, alongside rice, sauces and sundries. You can even finish things off with a mango lassi. If that sounds like a lot of choice, Ash's Tandoori has a good selection of set meals to choose from, so you can spend less time ordering and more time enjoying the food.
