A purpose built bar/restaurant on a derelict site in the heart of Chapel Allerton is the latest ambitious enterprise from the Oporto/Jake's Bar city centre stable. It’s aimed at the suburban spillover of Leeds yuppies and it's big: three floors of drinking and eating space with outdoor decks at top and bottom complete with parasols for warm weather and heaters for cooler days. The styling is contemporary and the menu is tinged with Mediterranean touches. Lunch brings casual £6 assemblies of chorizo and couscous, meatballs with yoghurt, salmon and salt cod fritters, while brunch (from £6) is offered from 10.30am-1pm on Sat and Sun and holiday Mondays. There's more elaboration at night with roast cod and chorizo, roast duck with Kirsch-soaked cherries, ricotta and spinach dumplings, or sea bass with crab mash and boullabaisse sauce. But with all the designer cocktail and import beers, drink leads and food follows.
