Tricked out, loft-style, like the sort of smart neighbourhood bar you’d find in downtown Big City USA, this souped-up, more inviting version of what was previously Westbourne House is one of the better Bayswater bets for cocktails. Squeeze into a downstairs den that could be a location for a 1970s Playboy shoot and sample girly sips including crimson queen (a Zubrowka vodka and Amaretto sweetheart) or skinny Maggie and her purple dress (a low-cal, hibiscus-flavoured oriental margarita). Sicilian house wine (£19) is what to order with lunchtime and evening snacks including chicken wings with scotch bonnet (chilli) marmalade, mac ‘n’ cheese with truffle oil, Maryland crab cakes and quesadillas. Heartier plates are of the burger, ribs, surf ‘n’ turf and Caesar salad ilk, while weekend brunch brings eggs Benedict and co. Like we say, you could be in America.
