SquareMeal Review of Al Waha Restaurant

Silver Award

One of London’s smarter Lebanese options, Al Waha still has the friendly neighbourhood vibe that has made it a Westboune Grove fixture since the 1990s. Waiters navigate between the closely-set tables in the split-level dining room; tables by the windows have the best atmosphere, while those on the mezzanine are better suited to larger groups. As you might expect, hot and cold mezze are the menu’s highlight and will suit most appetites as an entire meal. Our top picks are hummus kawarmah (topped with diced lamb and pine nuts), the kibbeh nayeh (raw lamb with crushed wheat, spices and garnished with onions), the pizza-like arayes topped with minced lamb, parsley, sesame paste and pine nuts, and sambousek, cheese-stuffed pastries. Should you still have room, chicken, lamb and fish to follow comes with an irresistible smoky edge from the charcoal grill. To drink, the well-priced wine list leads with Lebanon and has loads under £30, while prices overall are very reasonable for the quality of food and the generosity if the portions.

I had a great experience at Al Waha. From the delicious food to the great ambience, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. To add to this, Rakan (the manager) gave us premium customer service.

A Must Eat Place

I initially started coming to Al Waha due to certain friends being vegetarian, however, I have been back numerous times due to the fabulous food and service at such good prices. I highly recommend this restauant for either lunch or dinner (and try the Lebanese wine as it’s great).

I have never had anything but an incredible meal at Al Waha. Favourite items: their silky, light hummous, the fattoush salad, the tabbouleh, and anything they do with courgettes or aubergines. It's the perfect place to go with my vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten-free friends, as the chefs have a complete range of freshly-prepared options, and always have a selection of items that will appeal to all the people in my party. You can make an entire meal just of the incredible starters — and they bake their own bread, so hot, fresh bread, light as air hummous, a bowl of fresh salad, some stuffed vine leaves, and I'm pretty much in heaven! (Of course, a piece of baklava won't be refused!) The service is attentive but not hovering, the restaurant itself is elegant but comfortable — like a chic Middle Eastern living room really. People come here to relax and enjoy, and to eat — this is not a loud or touristy restaurant, it's an elegant destination for those who truly love Middle Eastern, Arabic and Lebanese prepared at the highest level.
