Every now and then, you might come across somewhere special like The Woodsman. This Stratford Upon Avon-based restaurant comes from Restaurateur Mike Robinson who, with a passion for Britain's natural larder, has created a concept which honours the area's seasonal produce, in a stunning, historic setting.
The Woodsman takes over a beautiful, Grade II listed building which has been used as an inn for as far back as 1655, playing host to The Royal Shakespeare Club’s annual dinner from as early as 1824. Today, the space has been renovated into a stylish restaurant which blends a contemporary feel with period features.
While the main restaurant is a lovely, open-plan space with lots of natural light, if you're planning a special occasion and in search of a private dining room, The Woodsman has two exclusive spaces for small to medium-sized groups. The feasting room has space for 30 people around a baronial table and boasts features with 500 years of history such as the Elizabethan fireplace and wooden ceiling beams. To complement the style of the space, the team delight in putting on a show with feasting options like suckling pigs, whole roasted wild deer, spit cooked ducks over charcoal and whole wood roasted turbot, carved in front of guests.
For a smaller group, The Warren seats up to 10 people and offers the option for a more intimate soiree. The Woodsman has its own dedicated events team and so whatever you were hoping for your special occasion, they'll do their best to make it happen.
The website details a sample feasting menu for spring to summer and autumn to winter, with dishes such as wild venison scotch eggs with Woodman brown sauce, home cured Chalk stream trout with beetroot salad and whole smoked Cotswold chicken with potato and leek dauphinoise, peas and bacon.
