The quaint and inviting Silver Birch is a relative newcomer to Chiswick High Road, but is quickly settling in to life here thanks to a combination of smart modern European plates and its carefully curated wine list. Head chef Nathan Cornwell has an impressive CV that includes stints in Michelin-starred haunts such as Copenhagen’s Geranium and Stockholm’s Kadeau, bringing plenty of experience to the kitchen here and stretching his wings with an innovative menu that includes dishes like Shetland cod with Swiss chard and chicken butter sauce, alongside roasted Isle of Mull scallops with heritage carrots, lardo and shellfish sauce.
The restaurant itself is an oasis of calm - airy, spacious and bathed in light, with an earthy colour palette that reflects Chiswick's own leafy vibe. Some walls have been stripped back to show the original brick, whilst others are wood-panelled and painted, or covered in textured plaster for a more organic, dappled feel. It's the ideal atmosphere for a private dinner party with friends, which is fortunate because, the Silver Birch does in fact have a private dining room for such occasions.
The Silver Birch private dining room has capacity for 14 guests seated or 30 standing, making it ideal for a wide range of dining events from a sit-down banquet or celebration dinner to a more informal gathering with drinks and canapes. The space itself is extremely flexible - the long dining table can be bespokely configured to suit different events, and you can curate every aspect of your dinner from the playlist to the menu, which Hernandez will help customise to suit the occasion.
There are options for bigger and smaller groups too - take a look at the seven-seater chef's table if you like the sound of a more intimate dinner, or you can hire the main dining room for a larger function. In both cases the Silver Birch can work with you to create bespoke dishes, as well as procuring rare wines should you so wish.
