Located on the well renowned Charlotte Street, The Ninth is a contemporary French restaurant from owner and chef Jun Tanaka. With over 30 years of industry experience under his belt, including previous employment at iconic institutions like Le Gavroche and The Restaurant Marco Pierre White, Tanaka has trained with some of the best in the business. Situated in an old Bloomsbury townhouse, this Michelin-starred establishment is an excellent choice for an unforgettable private meal, whether you're organising an impressive client lunch or intimate celebration with family and friends.
There are a few options for private dining at The Ninth depending on your party size and style. The semi-private dining area is a stylish and relaxed space complete with exposed brick walls, eccentric hanging bulbs and a large wine rack lining the wall, suitable for groups of up to 20 people. Alternatively, the first floor of the restaurant is available for larger parties and affords total privacy and seclusion. On Sundays, exclusive hire of the whole restaurant is possible for lunch and dinner. This would be ideal for grand private meals like large scale corporate occasions.
Regarding the meal itself, expect sumptuous dishes in a classical French style, but refined with a modern Mediterranean twist. The menu is based around sharing, which is encouraged but in no way enforced; the plates work just as well in a typical three-course layout. Examples include duck confit ravioli with pickled kohlrabi and duck consomme, grilled turbot with ceps, Romanesco and chicken jus, and salt beef cheek and tongue with braised daikon and oxtail vinaigrette. A visit here also mandates its famous pain perdu with tonka bean ice cream to finish.
There is an extensive bottle list featuring a range of New and Old World wines, including a self-professed 'unapologetic emphasis on Burgundy', with many sought after labels from the region.
