It's no coincidence that flamboyant restaurant and venue Sarastro is found in the heart of Theatreland. In fact, enjoying a meal, joining friends for a drink, or hosting your own event here, is like taking part in theatre itself. Indeed, this iconic establishment opened its doors back in 1996 and since then has been a place to see and be seen.
Named after a character in Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute', the interiors are absolutely fantastical with theatre boxes mounted high onto the walls, flourishes of red materials and furnishings contrasting against the golden theme and from the ceiling, objects all nodding to music, showmanship, acting and the stage, hang like huge ornaments. It really does have to be seen to be believed.
One thing is for sure, if you're looking for somewhere totally unique to host your event - be it a corporate do, important client outing, birthday party, anniversary or even wedding reception, Sarastro is unlike any other. Its location is also fantastic, just a few minutes walk from Charing Cross station, Covent Garden station, and the Strand, your friends, family or colleagues will be able to find it easily.
The team at Sarastro welcome group bookings but ask that you call them directly so that they can discuss your needs. All bookings over six people are invited to dine from the set menu to make organising your meal that little bit easier. The set menu begins with a mix of smaller plates which are designed to all be shared, including a Turkish style bulgur wheat salad, as well as cheese filled puff pastries, and fried calamari.
For mains, choose between the likes of beef short rib with potato gratin, French beans and gravy, as well as pan fried seabass with Julienne courgette and carrots, mashed potato with cream tarragon sauce. As for dessert, we like the sound of the traditional Turkish baklava with pistachios, vanilla ice cream and rose and honey syrup.
