It takes a very special event to use Sarastro as a backdrop, but if you're ready to experience 'the show after the show' there's no where like it in town. Sarastro opened its doors back in the late 90s and with a unique concept and incredible location just off Covent Garden's piazza, it became an instant classic.
Found in the heart of theatreland, it's loved by those going to, and returning from, the theatre thanks to its operatic aesthetic. Seats are actually positioned in amazing theatre-style boxes mounted up on the walls, with chairs adorned in red and purple silks and velvets, rubbing up next to golden furnishings and wow-worthy ornaments that hang from the ceiling like art installations. What's more, Sarastro brings the show to life with live music which plays for much of the week, inviting perfomers across all sorts of genres - from Latin to swing - to perform and entertain diners.
The family-run team at Sarastro welcome group, events and private dining bookings but ask that you call them with plenty of notice so as organise your wants and needs properly. There is an over-16 age restriction after 6pm and all parties must be dressed in smart clothing, in case this effects your booking.
All tables of more than six people are also invited to dine from the set menu. To start, the table is covered in smaller sharing plates for everyone to try, from hummus and breads to calamari and cheese-filled pastries. For mains, each person may choose their own, with options like pan fried seabass with Julienne courgette and carrots, mashed potato with cream tarragon sauce, alongside beef short rib with potato gratin, French beans and gravy. Finally, desserts come in the form of traditional Turkish Baklava with pistachios, vanilla ice cream and rose and honey syrup, or chocolate fondant with a melt-in-your-mouth middle.
