If your dream food tour sounds like the winding streets of Tokyo, you're in luck - you might not have to leave London to get the same experience - well, almost. Heddon Yokocho is a Japanese restaurant in the middle of thriving Soho, inspired by Japan's regional ramen cuisine, from northern Hokkaido to Kyushu in the south.
The name yokocho comes from the Japanese word for alleyway, reflecting the food culture you'll find in the big cities where hidden bars sit next to outdoors izakaya. Here, the team hope to bring a similar feel to your dining experience, and enthusiastically welcome group bookings, making it the perfect place for birthdays, hen and stag dos or after work drinks.
Inside, the space is magical. Think low lighting, a colour palette of rich, glowing reds and illuminated paper lanterns which hang from the ceiling from all different angles and heights. If you're bringing friends, family or colleagues, we think they'll be impressed.
When it comes to ordering, why not start with a cocktail? We like the look of the Manga-themed cocktail menu with highballs like the Tiki Passion with Japanese rum, coconut rum, passion fruit, almond syrup and angostura bitters, or if you're in the mood for something softer, there's the Melon Cream Soda ice cream float.
As for food, the biggest section of the menu is, of course, ramen. Pick between the likes of the Spicy Tori Paitan Ramen with 12 hour-cooked chicken broth with top secret spicy gochujang sauce, and Vegan Napoli Ramen with a tomato base. For katsu curry fans, there's both classic chicken and a more inventive pumpkin, while those who love sushi can get their fix with salmon and avocado rolls. If you'd prefer to mix and match some smaller bites, try the spicy Korean chicken wings, pork gyoza and house salad - but don't forget to check out the desserts, too!
