Host an event with a difference at Flour and Spoon, a beautiful patisserie, baking school and kitchen in the heart of Chelmsford. Here, you'll find a picture-perfect pink building with a history dating all the way back to the 17th century, plus plenty of characterful, period details such as wooden-beamed ceilings. Inside, there's space for small groups, so you can either book out a couple of tables or ask the team about taking over the entire place.
Flour and Spoon is open every day of the week until early afternoon, so why not speak to the team about hiring the place after hours and making it your own? Across the menus you'll find the best coffees and teas, as well as indulgent cakes - from carrot cake and opera sponge to desserts you're less likely to have tried, such as the traditional Czech treat of Medovnik with 10 layers of indulgent honey sponge filled with caramel cream and toasted walnut nibs.
As for heartier plates, Flour and Spoon boasts a range of brunch classics such as their wholesome English fry up with thick-cut bacon, fried potatoes, free range eggs sourced from a local farm, grilled tomatoes and legendary sourdough.
However, we think the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion would be to try the recently-launched afternoon tea, dreamed up by the talented pastry chefs. Tuck into creative finger sandwiches crafted using only locally sourced ingredients, as well as freshly-baked, homemade scones and a mixture of mouth-watering cakes. There's also a fine selection of teas from The Rare Tea Co. and coffees, to keep you hydrated.
Or, if you fancy doing something out of the ordinary, why not try one of its baking classes? You can choose between themes like sourdough, Italian baking or seasonal classes, and get together your nearest and dearest to learn together.
