Located just around the corner from Trinity Gardens, 21 is one of Newcastle's most respected fine dining establishments, serving luxurious food inspired by classic French cooking. The restaurant originally opened in 1988, and gained a Michelin star just three years after opening, solidifying its reputation as one of the best restaurants in the region.
Should you wish to hire 21 for a special event or dinner, there is a smart, spacious and comfortable private dining room able to host both corporate and social occasions. The large, flexible private dining room can be set up with multiple seating arrangements, so it's ideal for anything from a small work lunch to a celebratory dinner with friends and family, with space to accommodate up to 40 seated guests or 60 for standing receptions.
The space offers a finely-tuned balance between sophisticated and quirky. Polished floors, white tablecloths and large windows keep things smart and upmarket, while red sofas and funky decorations inject a touch of playfulness. You can also choose whether to hire the room privately or semi-privately. For example, if you’d like to feel the buzz of the main restaurant, the team can leave the glass doors open to marry the two spaces together.
Head chef Chris Dobson and chef director Terry Laybourne have created a selection of menus for private dining groups, and the team are happy to customise them to suit your requests. However, each group must choose one set menu to be enjoyed by all guests. For example, you might start with baked sea scallops in their shells, followed by roast venison with sour cherries, grapes and walnuts, and finishing with a warm chocolate fondant with Jersey cream.
There is also the option to add extras to your private dinner, such as an additional cheese course, chocolate truffles or a celebration cake for birthdays. You can even opt to include a special wine discovery pairing, which is carefully selected by Terry and Chris.
