Smedmore House is a beautiful, 18th-century house nestled on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, and available for exclusive hire for parties, weddings, functions and corporate events. Also known as the Dorset Seaside Manor, this jaw-dropping Georgian building looks akin to a small castle or chateau, with a fabulous location looking out to sea.
Inside, this family home looks almost like a film set, with stunning, period reception rooms featuring chandeliers, antique furniture and walls in candy hues like sunshine yellow and pale pink. If planning a formal event, such as a wedding, there are some spaces that have been earmarked for these kinds of occasions, with six reception rooms with enough space to host ceremonies or dinners.
Or, if the weather's fine, make use of Smedmore House's beautiful surrounding grounds and lawn, where you can erect a marquee. In the past, former bookings have enjoyed the beautiful views with clear-sided marquees and hosted drinks on the grass which looks idyllic.
In terms of accomodation, the main house can comfortably fit 16 people, in eight double beds. Bedrooms are as enchanting as expected, with old armchairs, whimsical colour palettes, and ruched curtains at the windows. It really does feel like going back in time. There's even a penthouse suite with a freestanding bath and lovely views. Additionally, extra accomodation can be organised in the Garden Wing which has space for another six people in three double bedrooms, overlooking the garden. This section benefits from a separate entrance from the Mediterranean Garden, too.
If wondering about catering, while this property is self-catering, the team behind Smedmore can absolutely help in arranging a private chef or caterers to come along for a special event or perhaps a birthday supper. Plus, if planning on going down to the beach, you can also chat to the team about hiring the boat house which is like a hut to keep your things and sit within for a drink.
