Though technically part of Middlesex, Islington is an inner borough of London, and can be traced back to the Roman age. It may be hard to believe if you know Islington in the present day, but this busy part of London was once just a small village. Eventually, Islington became a hub of commerce and whilst it isn’t still as much of a commerce hub as it once was, Islington has retained its bustling cultural identity. Take a stroll down Upper Street and enjoy browsing in the independent boutiques, or spend some time in the antique markets along Camden Passage. If you enjoy the arts scene, visit the Almeida Theatre to catch a thrilling show, before toasting to a great evening in one of the many pubs or cocktail bars. You’ll be in great company in Islington, as many famous faces have called this borough home - including George Orwell and Emma Watson, Lily Allen and Tony Blair.
