Highclere Castle has roots that date back to the Anglo Saxon times, before it was then a medieval palace, a Tudor place house, Georgian house, and today, is the Victorian Castle that you may know. It's also the very popular home of Downton Abbey, so as soon as you drive up the sweeping, tree lined driveway, you may hear the theme song ringing in your head. The first written records of the estate date back to 749 AD, and it was in 1842 when Sir Charles Barry, who is also the gentleman who designed the Houses of Parliament, transformed Highclere House into the stunning castle it is today. It goes without saying that Highclere Castle makes for a pretty spectacular event venue.
There are between 250 and 300 rooms in the castle saloon, and so, there are a variety of spaces that you can book for your next event. As you make your way through the castle, you'll spot rooms that are very familiar from Downton Abbey. You'll also notice the bedrooms and sweeping staircase that the cast are often seen descending. The Egyptian Exhibition also makes for an exciting addition for your guests to go and explore, where you can find out all about the 5th Earl of Carnarvon's discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Highclere Castle acts as an excellent space to hold your next event, whether you're looking for somewhere to celebrate a birthday or a spot to woo your business friends. Up to 150 guests can enjoy drinks and canapes throughout the state rooms, where they will all be wowed by the famous artwork and historical charm. The events team will always work with you to provide a menu and drinks list that suit your preferences and event style.
