The Starr Inn in Dunmow has had a refurbishment following ownership swapping over to new hands, and is a great venue for hosting your upcoming Christmas parties and get-togethers. Not only will the place be decked with twinkling lights and festive touches, there’s a smashing Christmas menu that you can select dishes from. The pub still has an old school feel to it, with rustic touches and original details.
The Christmas party menu is available from Tuesday through to Saturday in December, and there's the option of three courses with or without DJ and dance. Starters include the mulled wine and oxtail soup with shredded pancake and chopped prunes, a chicken liver and brandy parfait served with melba toast and a winter cranberry chutney, and a traditional prawn cocktail coated in cognac infused Marie Rose sauce.
All main dishes are served with seasonal vegetables and garlic and thyme roast potatoes, and include options of traditional roast Christmas turkey with pigs in blankets, sage, onion and cranberry stuffing and a rich Madeira wine gravy, along with the pan fried salmon on pickled shallot and fennel, coated in a Pernod and dill cream sauce. Of course, the star of the show is the roasted mustard and cracked black pepper sirloin of British beef with a Yorkshire pudding and splashed with a rich merlot gravy. Veggies can enjoy the Mediterranean vegetable parcel filled with a panache and served with basil passata.
It wouldn't be a Christmas party without an epic dessert, so try the traditional 5-star cognac Christmas pud, a caramel apple crumbie pie with thick calvados custard, or the pineapple carpaccio with vegan vanilla bean ice cream.
