Wadebridge is a bustling little market town located on the River Camel in the north of Cornwall. Legend has it that the town’s bridge was built on wool. In truth, the so-called ‘Bridge on Wool’ is more of a nod to the role the woollen industry played within the town for centuries, rather than its actual foundations, but it’s a fun tale nonetheless.
The town isn’t far from Bodmin which is famous for its courtroom and jail, or the busy fishing village of Padstow. It also marks the halfway point on the Camel Trail, an 18-mile cycle path which winds along the disused railway lines between Padstow and Wenfordbridge. Wadebridge is also known for hosting the annual Royal Cornwall Show, which is held for three days. Each year, there are all types of farming and food to be enjoyed, as well as plenty of family friendly activities, competitions and exhibitions.
