The Old Hall Ely is a privately owned country house and wedding venue, located one mile from Ely in the verdant Cambridgeshire countryside. Sat amongst 10 acres of land, The Old Hall overlooks three ornamental lakes and Ely Cathedral itself - the perfect backdrop for any wedding. It is also worth noting that being just one mile from Ely railway station, The Old Hall has excellent links to London and the rest of East Anglia.

The Old Hall Ely in Cambridgeshire is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere. This beautifully restored and maintained country house is run entirely by the Morbey family, who have many years experience in hosting weddings. The venue prides itself on being a totally exclusive, creative, flexible and personal venue which can be configured to meet the ideas you have for your dream wedding. Throughout your wedding at The Old Hall, you and your guests will be able to enjoy exclusive use of the beautiful house and grounds, with no other bookings taken on the same day.

Depending on the size of your party, choose between a range of spacious, characterful rooms to suit your event. Both large and small wedding parties are most welcome at The Old Hall - from lively celebratory receptions to elegant and intimate sit-down meals.

If you're looking for some inspiration for your wedding breakfast, the talented catering team at the venue are on hand to ensure you have access to a delicious menu of seasonal, freshly cooked food. The much-loved Orangery restaurant on site is a true testament to the incredibly skilled head chef and team.

This recently constructed oak structure is used for indoor ceremonies, seating up to 165 guests. Light floods in through a skylight above your aisle and huge bifold doors that look out onto our idyllic gardens, with Ely Cathedral beyond.

The Main Hall

For indoor ceremonies, we can offer two intimate spaces: The Main Hall and The Sitting Room. The Main Hall is incredibly warm and inviting with gorgeous oak beams, a grand fireplace and large mullion windows. This room truly transforms into one of the cosiest spots of The Old Hall Ely, providing a comfortable home-away-from-home feeling for all of your guests.

The Sitting Room is ideal for smaller ceremonies and has a regal feel with beautiful coffered ceilings and doors adjoining The Topiary Courtyard. Stepping out onto The Topiary Courtyard is a wonderful feature for those warmer days. During autumn and winter, The Sitting Room also has its own open fireplace to keep your guests toasty and emit a relaxing glow.

What a stunning venue!!The moment we drove through the gates for our viewing, we both fell in love and couldn’t think of having our wedding anywhere else. It had everything we were looking for. Our guests commented on how incredibly organised the staff were, from the setting up of the marquee, to the serving of the food. The rooms were so clean and very well looked after. The day was so relaxed and went so so quickly. We can’t thank the team at The Old Hall enough from start to finish. We got married here in early December and whilst perfect seems like a strong word it is definitely the right one. I struggle with anxiety and am definitely a control freak and threw every question and possible scenario at Kirsty (an absolute GEM among gems) during the planning phase and for every single one she had a well prepared answer. The planning that went into our day was unmatched. Then it's the big day...I wasn't feeling great in the morning (mix of nerves and just general sickness), Michelle (how utterly fantastic she was) noticed I wasn't at breakfast...so appeared in the bridal suite with pastries. There is literally nothing that is too much trouble and they go completely above and beyond in every aspect. Whilst Michelle was keeping me sane (and fed!) in the morning Jasmine was downstairs running around setting everything up behind the scenes. She was a core part of ensuring our day ran as smoothly as it did and making sure everything was on time and set up correctly. We had so many compliments on the organisation of the day and how smooth everything ran. But the big showstopper? The food. Oh my goodness the food. Even if you don't get the chance to get married or attend a wedding here you are in luck. They do dining evenings and weekends too. I would recommend these to everyone just to try their incredible food. We've definitely got our eye on a few events throughout the year and we will definitely be back for a festive Christmas lunch on our anniversary. So many people were raving about the food all night, definitely a highlight. Finally to Amanda who was an absolute diamond in the evening, she ensured everything ran almost effortlessly and was checking in on me throughout the night. Thank you isn't and will never be enough for Kirsty, Michelle, Amanda, Jasmine and the entire Old Hall Team working tirelessly behind the scenes. I'm so excited that the Old Hall is a hotel and restaurant as well, gives us every reason to go back...and we definitely will!

Like something out of a fairy taleSEPTEMBER, 2023

A perfect day at a perfect venue. We wouldn’t change a thing about our day, it was like something out of a fairy tale, our dream wedding! From the moment we stepped through the doors of The Old Hall we were looked after and knew straight away this was the venue for us. The staff did everything to make our vision come to life and ensure our day was perfect, it truly was the best day of our lives. On our day there was always a member of staff around to help us with anything we needed, for both the bride and groom, they took all the stress away. The day ran smoothly from start to finish. We had the sunshine on our side and were able to get married outside which was so dreamy. The food was out of this world and the guests loved the big reveal of the dance floor! Still to this day we get compliments on how beautiful our wedding was. We will be forever grateful for what The Old Hall did for us and it’ll always hold a special place in our hearts. It was honestly the best day, we keep watching our video and want to do it all over again. On our wedding I was actually pregnant with our first baby and we didn’t even know!! Baby is due May!
