Smeetham Hall Barn

Smeetham Hall Barn is a family-owned wedding venue based in the lovely village of Bulmer, hidden deep in the Essex countryside. Dating back to the 16th century, the building has been beautifully converted into a venue with real wow-factor while also maintaining a sense of old-school charm. Licensed for wedding and civil ceremonies both inside the barn and outside in the stunning grounds, as well as being available to hire just for receptions, the possibilities are endless Smeetham Hall Barn. However, with a number of bespoke packages on offer, and also the option to hire the venue without any additional extras, you will be able to find something that works perfectly for you.

The 500-year-old barn has an incredibly romantic feel to it, with original timber beams and a fantastic high vaulted ceiling. With space for up to 150 people for a large sit-down wedding breakfast, the barn can also cater for much smaller weddings. There is also a perfect area for dancing in the barn which can house a DJ if you want your reception to drift into the early hours. Attached to the side of the barn, in the courtyard area, is a fully-heated marquee which can be used as a break out space, or perhaps as a spot for a pre-meal drinks reception. The incredible surroundings of the barn also ensure a beautiful backdrop to any photos.

While Smeetham Hall Barn doesn’t have an in-house catering team, it does offer a list of a varied list of caterers to pick from who all come highly recommended. The venue also allows you to provide your own alcohol until its bar opens after the wedding breakfast and doesn’t charge a corkage fee.
