Found in the quiet village of White Roding on the Hertfordshire / West Essex border, Colville Hall is only a few miles drive from Chelmsford, Harlow and Bishop Stortford, making it a convenient location for Essex couples.
Despite the easy accessibility, Colville Hall still feels like a secluded countryside paradise, surrounded by acres of green fields. The venue is characterised by a courtyard of listed thatched barns, all situated around a central manor house.
Engaged couples can hold both their ceremony and reception here. The fully heated Ceremony Barn is where you will tie the knot and is able to hold up to 250 people. Typically, the cocktail hour after the ceremony is held on the grounds, but if the weather is not playing ball, the Ceremony Barn can easily accommodate drinks receptions too.
Once you have exchanged vows, you can head to the Mill Pond Barn to continue the festivities. This stunning space boasts 30-foot high glass doors that overlook Colville Hall’s duck pond – it’s an ideal spot for a wedding breakfast or evening drinks reception, when food can be provided by one of Colville Hall’s three catering partners.
If a picturesque backdrop for photos is at the front of your mind, take comfort in the fact that Colville Hall’s comes equipped with manicured grounds. The 14 acre ancient wood, known to locals as ‘blue bell wood’, is perfect for beautiful wedding portraits, while there are various ponds to pose by, as well as a Grade I-listed archway.
The newlyweds, and some of their wedding party, will be able to take advantage of on-site accommodation. Colville Hall’s Bridal Suite features a king-sized bed and oak beams, as well as floor-to-ceiling glass patio doors which overlook the grounds. Your guests meanwhile, can nestle down for the night in The Old Dairy or The Stable Block, each with four ensuite bedrooms.
