Founded by three friends in an actual back yard, this growing chain of lo-fi neighbourhood pizzerias is set to open its biggest venue yet on one of east London’s most vibrant streets. Spanning two floors, the new Hackney Road restaurant will bring the brand’s popular punningly-named pizzas to a whole new community, thanks to its delivery radius reaching into Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, Hoxton, and London Fields.
Situated just a short walk from Hoxton station, the new site’s ground floor will feature leather booths and high seating – ideal for watching the chefs feed the beast of a pizza oven – while downstairs will house a small bar. Décor takes its cue from the Yard Sale’s other shops in the form of custom neon signage and branded merchandise.
What fans of the chain will really want to know, though, is how the new menu’s shaping up, since the key to Yard Sale Pizza’s success is, of course, the quality pizza for which it’s become known. Thankfully, the new location will follow the lead of its siblings by serving its signature pizza that’s handmade with double-fermented dough and stone-baked.
The 12- or 18-inch bases come with a variety of both classic and eccentric toppings, from a simple margherita made with fior di latte, to a flavour punch that mixes pepperoni, Napoli piccante, and crumbled Nduja sausage. Veggies can look forward to a ‘TSB’ (tender stem broccoli, parmesan, pine nuts, garlic and olive oil) while vegans can get excited about the ‘Herb Your Enthusiasm’, which involves grilled artichokes, olives, red onion, and salsa verde.
Location-specific specials are on offer too, with the new Hackney branch set to serve a calzone menu featuring Cobble Lane Cured meats, as well as loaded vegetarian and vegan options. A selection of homemade dips, salads, sides such as the infamous cheese and marmite garlic bread, Happy Endings ice cream sandwiches, and local London beers, wines, and softs complete the menu line-up for this fifth instalment.
