My wife and myself were invited to Wentworth for the members Christmas lunch on Sunday the 15th of December 2019. The cold starter buffet was very nice, however, the main meal carvery was shocking. The meat was cut so thin you could read a newspaper through it, the gravy was a cold, solidified lump on top of the meat. The parsnips were limp and also cold, the cauliflower cheese was more akin to cauliflower soup, they had run out of roasties, and as there was already a group waiting for these, I decided to pass. When we complained, they offered to 'plate' a meal for us, which two of us accepted and the meal was warmer with thicker cuts of meat but was still not worth the extra cost compared to their usual Sunday Lunch. Our host decided to give the buffet another go and had a luke warm meal. The dessert table was nice, but again, nowhere near to the standard of previous years when I've enjoyed a Sunday lunch there. The cost of this dross?? £75 per head. The extra cost was due to it being a Christmas dinner, however, apart from a very plain wreath or two and a choir who were there for approx 30 minutes during our starter we were there, there was nothing else 'Christmassy' about it. I can assure you of two things 1. I will never return to Wentworth Golf Club for food 2. Our local Toby would be embarrassed with the fair that Wentworth provided. Minimum effort for maximum profit. If it was not for the fact that our host had to pay in advance, I would have refused to pay. Probably the worst Sunday lunch I have ever experienced, and I have had a few!! Hang your heads in shame Wentworth. The £60 bottle of Shiraz was very nice.
