It's hard to miss this old gem of a pub on the main A4 as you drive between Devizes and Marlborough. Famous as the inspiration for a scene in Dickens' the Pickwick Papers, this four-hundred-year-old inn represents what an English pub should look like.
The Waggon and Horses is a quintessential and traditional thatched English pub, built in 1669 with the foundation stones made of sarsen stone, which the locals believe to be from the close by Avebury Circle.
Wonderful and cosy inside with original features and character the pub also has a fantastic garden overlooking Silbury hill and the rolling landscape surrounding it.
